The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER)- 2016

The Annual Status of Education Report is the largest citizen led survey conducted annually with children living in rural India. This survey has been conducted since the year 2005. ASER is facilitated by Pratham and is carried out by local organizations, colleges and DIETs. Today, Nationally we release the 11th edition of the ASER.
Every year, ASER measures and results are drawn on parameters such as whether children in rural India go to school, can they read simple text and can do basic arithmetic. All children in the age group of 3-16 years are surveyed from the population of the study and all children in the age group of 5-16 years are tested. The survey also consists of a visit to one government school in each sampled village. Since the implementation of the RTE Act in 2010, school visits in ASER have included indicators of compliance with those norms and standards specified in Right to Education Act that are easy to measure.
Education Minister of Maharshtra, Shri Vinod Tawde ji, released the Maharashtra edition of ASER in Mumbai amongst media, academia members, NGO's and citizens of the state. Mrs. Farida Lambay, Co - founder, Pratham, Ms. Usha Rane, Director Content and Training Pratham and Chairman Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative Mr. Sharad Kale were present at the release alongwith the minister.
